What is Halotherapy?

How Can it Help Those With Skin Conditions?

Did you ever think to yourself “Is there any way for me to feel better without having to take medication or do something extreme?” Salt therapy could be the answer!

Imagine sitting comfortably in a warmly lit room, relaxing and breathing in salty air.  You have an entire hour to yourself to listen to music, read a book, meditate, or just close your eyes and take a nap. All this, while helping yourself to relieve symptoms of Asthma, COPD, Respiratory illnesses, Coughs, Sinusitis, Allergies, Hay fever, Cold and Flu, Skin conditions such as Psoriasis, Acne, Eczema as well as many other health conditions. This is called Halotherapy. Also known as salt therapy. Sounds inviting, right? The amazing part is that salt therapy is proven to work. It must be one of the most pleasant and easiest therapies out there to help alleviate symptoms of a variety of health conditions.  The best part is, all you have to do is sit and breathe.

This therapy not only works for adults, but children as well. Kids can read books, color, play games, and play with toys all whilst just breathing in the salty air and getting the benefits.

What exactly is Halotherapy? Halotherapy or salt therapy, is a non-invasive, drug free way of salt inhalation. A special machine, the halo-generator, blows salt into an enclosed room and all you have to do is breathe it in for an allotted amount time (usually between 30-60 minutes). It doesn’t get much easier than that! Salt is known for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It aids in cleansing your respiratory system and helping to strengthen it. It helps the skin by removing toxins from the skin and increasing skin cell activity.

Personally, I have known about salt therapy for several years. I suffer from Psoriatic Arthritis and knew that salt therapy is used to help a variety of skin conditions.  I really wanted to try it, but had never had a place that offered salt therapy close to where I lived. Then I moved to London, and a salt room opened up a block from my home. This is when my salt therapy journey began. I would go 2-3 times per week. I soon started to notice a difference in how I felt and my skin calmed down quite a bit. Then I started to take my two children there as well. They also noticed a difference. After going for several months, my skin was the clearest it had been in a long time. That summer, I felt like I could wear a bathing suit without feeling self-conscious of my skin. It was a wonderful feeling.

Recently, I moved back to NJ and was so excited to find that there was a salt room 15 minutes away from where I lived. Revive Studios in Budd Lake, has a lovely salt room set up to provide halotherapy to both adults and children. They even have a second halo-generator to give you an additional boost of salt, if you so desire. Don’t waste any time.
